🔴 AI THREATS NOV-2026: cyber risk has moved from the screen to the shelf
In three weeks, two waves of sabotage forced supermarket refrigerators into defrost. First in France (Oct 11–12), at hundreds of stores, with freezers reaching 50 °C. Then on Nov 1–2, in at least seven countries: Belgium, Sweden, Luxembourg, Estonia, Ireland, the Netherlands and Finland.
What is confirmed:
▪ Obsolete Danfoss controllers (AK-SM 800 and AK-SC 355), no longer patched, exposed to the internet; CERT-FR also names Copeland and Dixell
▪ Criminal investigations in Paris and Brussels
▪ No actor, no ransom, no confirmed entry vector
What is NOT confirmed: any use of AI in these attacks.
Where AI actually shows up:
▪ PHP2Shell: critical PHP flaws found with AI assistance and patched on Oct 21
▪ UK NCSC, Nov 3: AI attacks on critical infrastructure are likely by 2028
Beyond Europe, Binance lost about US$6.3bn (Oct 29–30). Blockchain analysts point to North Korea's TraderTraitor/Lazarus; attribution is not yet official.
The GRC lesson: inventory and isolate legacy OT assets, control third-party remote access and shorten patch times.
